Do I have to be a Pacific student to participate?
- No! The Pacific Summer Italian Immersion Program is open to adults age 18+.
Is there an enrollment limit?
- Yes. The minimum enrollment is 10 students. The maximum enrollment is 20 students.
How do I apply for the program?
- Pacific's International Programs & Services Office oversees all faculty-led study abroad programs, so the application link will be through their site even if you are not a Pacific student.
What is the program cost?
- The Program cost for Summer 2024 is $5275 estimated (may vary slightly according to dollar/euro exchange rate).
What is included in the program cost?
The program includes
- Tuition for two semesters of Intensive Beginning Italian (8 units) or two semesters of Intermediate Italian Conversation (6 units)
- Shared apartment in Assisi

Do all students travel together?
- The faculty leader shares flight information from SFO to Rome Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) Airport. Students may choose to make a reservation on the same flight to Rome but are not required to do so.
- Students who do not fly with the faculty leader are encouraged to form groups to fly together during orientation sessions.
When should I make flight reservations?
- The faculty director will contact students when the program has reached minimum enrollment.
- Students should NOT make any flight reservations until the faculty director has confirmed the program.
Am I free to travel around Italy while on the program?
- There are two free weekends for travel within Italy. Students may not leave Italy for the duration of the program.
- Students who wish to travel in Italy beyond the Assisi/Santa Maria Degli Angeli area are asked to do so in groups or pairs and notify the faculty director of dates and locations of travel.
What is the class schedule?
- There is an orientation/introductory class on the Saturday before the first week of classes. Classes meet regularly from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday through Friday for the program's first half. During the Second Semester of Italian, an afternoon session is added from 2 - 4 p.m.
How do I know which level of Italian to take?
- Students who have had little or no Italian will sign up for Intensive Beginning Italian. Students who have had three or more years of high school Italian or a full year of college-level Italian may choose to take Intermediate Conversation. Unsure students may consult with the faculty director for advice on the appropriate level.
Can friends and family visit during the program?
- Yes, but friends and family members may not stay in the apartments with students. In Assisi, the apartment occupancy is strictly controlled and monitored; no overnight guests are allowed in apartments at any time.
- Due to the intensive nature of the course and activities, friends and family most often time their arrival at the very end of the program to attend the awarding of Certificates on July 1. Keep in mind that arrangements for lodging in Assisi or nearby Santa Maria Degli Angeli should be made well ahead of time; it is a small town with heavy tourism.
