2018 Brubeck Festival brings international flairThe Brubeck Institute at ÌÇÐÄvlog celebrates the legacy of jazz icon and renowned university alumnus Dave Brubeck '42. This year marks the 60th anniversary of Brubeck's 1958 jazz diplomacy Tour for the U.S. State Department. The lineup for Brubeck Festival 2018 was carefully selected to reflect the intercontinental and intercultural message of unity and peace that was a beacon of that event.
Coming to the Stockton Campus Oct. 23–27, the Brubeck Festival will feature top international names in jazz, including headliners multilingual French jazz singer Ìýand internationally renowned jazz band theÌý.ÌýThe Pacific Jazz and Vocal Jazz Ensembles will perform next to on Oct. 26 while the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet will join theÌýÌýin concert at the DeRosa University Center on Oct. 27.Ìý
Another highlight of the festival's schedule is a performance byÌý, internationally renowned guitarist, composer and recording artist who joined the Brubeck Institute as a resident artist in 2017.ÌýMany talented regional jazz musicians will also perform during the week atÌý.
"Bringing musicians of this caliber to ÌÇÐÄvlog is a dream come true, both for students and for the wider community," said Patrick Langham, interim executive director of the Brubeck Institute. "Cyrille, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, and Mimi are amazing performers, and their concerts will be a great opportunity for audiences here to see musicians who are known throughout the world."
Starting Tuesday, Oct. 23, Take Five Jazz at the Brew, the jazz club at Valley Brew Restaurant on Adams Street will host nightly combo concerts with local favorites, including the Brian Kendrick Little Big Band and the Joe Mazzaferro Group. Among notable guest musicians is the Balkan folk music band, Triism,Ìýwho will perform Oct. 23 during the opening concert.
