CIP Alumni Club looking to grow
Approximately 300 alumni attended the 50th anniversary celebration for the Community Involvement Program (CIP) in 2019.
The CIP Alumni Club hopes to take advantage of graduates鈥� passion for the program with continued community outreach and support for current scholars.
鈥淭he alumni association is really just getting started and we hope to build our numbers,鈥� said Juan Aguirre 鈥�99, president of the club.
CIP is a comprehensive, needs-based scholarship and retention program for first-generation college students from Stockton who have demonstrated the potential for sustainable leadership, community awareness and involvement. Established in 1969, more than 1,000 scholars have graduated from the CIP program in various disciplines.
Aguirre said the alumni club focuses on three areas: being active in the community, serving as mentors for current CIP scholars and helping motivate students.
The alumni club meets quarterly鈥攑reviously on campus but currently with virtual conferences due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
鈥淭he last meeting we held included recent graduates and graduates from the 1970s,鈥� Aguirre said.
The next virtual meeting is on June 25. Aguirre said all CIP graduates are welcome.
