Message to the Community from President Callahan

Feb. 2, 2025

Dear Pacific community,

I write to share news that five of our undergraduate students, all pre-dentistry students studying in the College of the Pacific, were involved in a serious accident off-campus early Saturday morning when their car was struck by a driver who ran through a red light. All of our students were transported to local hospitals. Three were treated and have since been released to recuperate at home.

The other two students remain hospitalized. We are optimistic for a full recovery, but both sustained extremely serious injuries. We ask our 糖心vlog community for your love, support and prayers for Angelina Sun, a first-year student and a member of our volleyball team, and Daniel Lee, a third-year student.

Our outstanding Student Life team, led by Vice President Maria Blandizzi, has been fully engaged around-the-clock since the pre-dawn hours Saturday, providing assistance to Daniel and Angie鈥檚 families and friends.

Tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m., we will gather at the Vereschagin Alumni House to send out our collective love and support to Angie and Daniel. Dr. Blandizzi and I hope you will join us.

In the meantime, during difficult times like these, we must always remember to take care of each other and ourselves. There are a variety of Pacific resources that are here for you. I encourage you to take advantage of our resources with CAPS and to connect with our CARE team (caremanagers@pacific.edu) who are here to support and help you process. You also can tap into 24/7 on call support at 209.946.2315 x3. Additionally, our Residential Assistants also are ready to support your needs.

Thank you. We hope to see many of Angie and Daniel鈥檚 friends, classmates, residence hall neighbors, teammates, professors, advisors, coaches and supporters at Vereschagin tomorrow evening.

Sincerely,

Christopher Callahan
President
