College of the Pacific

Corey Stocco, assistant professor of psychology, served as a subject matter expert for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board in Littleton, Colorado. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc. was established in 1998 to meet professional credentialing needs identified by behavior analysts, governments and consumers of behavior analysis services.  

Development and Alumni Relations, Marketing and Communications and Enrollment Management

Pacific was recognized by the Council in Support of Education (CASE) at the ceremony on Feb. 21. The awards showcase best practices in alumni relations, fundraising, public/government relations, advancement services, special events and outstanding communications. ÌÇÐÄvlog received three awards.

• University Development and Alumni Relations - Silver Award for "Homecoming with Purpose."
• The Office of Marketing and Communications, working in collaboration with Enrollment Management, - Gold Award for "Tiger Day Instagram Page" ( and Bronze Award for "Undergraduate Admissions Viewbook"  

Publications

College of the Pacific

Jessica Grady, Assistant Professor of Psychology, co-authored the article "" in the journal Infant Behavior and Development. Results of the study on parent and child factors that may contribute to healthy social behaviors in shy toddlers indicated that child physiological regulation and parent emotion language may each help shy toddlers to socially engage. This work was supported by funding through the Scholarly and Artistic Activities Grant and College Research Fund.  

Jane Khudyakov, assistant professor of biological sciences, and graduate students Jared Deyarmin '19, Molly McCormley '18 and Laura Pujade Busqueta '17,  '19, and undergraduate student Alicia Stephan '18 co-authored the article "" in the journal Scientific Reports.    

Ajna Rivera, associate professor of biological sciences, and Eric Wictor '16, '19 were co-authors on the article "," published in PLOS ONE. Her research team found an interaction between two genetic pathways in a freshwater sponge, which has nearly all the same gene families as humans but lacks almost all of our complex organs and systems.

Franklin Gevurtz, distinguished professor of law, had his article, "The Shareholder Approval Conundrum," accepted for publication in the Boston College Law Review.  

Michael P. Malloy, distinguished professor of law, had the second of five 2019 supplements for his three-volume treatise, "Banking Law and Regulation," published by Wolters Kluwer.  

Stephen McCaffrey, distinguished professor of law, published "Introduction: The Path to the UN Watercourses Convention and Beyond," in Laurence Boisson de Chazournes, Makane Moise Mbengue, Mara Tignino & Komlan Sangbana, eds., "The UN Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses: A Commentary," published by Oxford University Press (2018).

Jianhua Ren, professor of chemistry, and several students gave three oral presentations and a poster presentation at the Conference on Ion Chemistry and Mass Spectrometry held in Lake Arrowhead, California, Jan. 18–20, 2019.

Caroline Schroeder, professor of religious studies, presented the paper, "Understanding Space and Place through Digital Text Analysis," at the : "Coptic Literature in Context. The Contexts of Coptic Literature. Late Antique Egypt in a dialogue between literature, archaeology and digital humanities" at Sapienza University in Rome.

Cary Bricker, professor of lawyering skills, presented on mindfulness for trial lawyers at the Educating Advocates of Trial Advocacy (EATS) conference put on by the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Dec. 6–9, 2018.  

Leslie Jacobs, professor of law, spoke on the panel "100 years of incitement" at the Association of American Law Schools annual meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, in January.

Michael P. Malloy, distinguished professor of law, will be moderating a panel on the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). He also will present "Recent Trends You Can CISG" in decisions applying the convention in contracts cases at the 14th annual International Conference on Contracts, KCon XIV, at Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 8–9, 2019.  

Jarrod Wong, professor of law, presented on "Investor-State Dispute Settlement in NAFTA 2.0," at the conference NAFTA 2.0: The Puzzle of North America as a Region, held at Texas A&M University Law School, Feb. 28 â€“ March 1, 2019.

Nancy N. Nguyen, clinical professor of pharmacy practice and regional coordinator for Palo Alto, and Sachin A. Shah, professor of pharmacy practice and regional coordinator for Travis AFB, presented "Facilitating Student and Resident Clinical Research: From Idea to Manuscript" at the 2018 CSHP West Coast Preceptor Conference.

Sachin A. Dan O'Neill, associate professor of political science, presented "," a talk on his recently released book, for the International and Area Studies Department at Washington University in St. Louis on Feb. 18. 2019. He also fielded questions and led a discussion on China for the State Failure, State Success and Development class.

Mary M. Somerville, University Librarian, (2019) was a session facilitator on "Public-Private Partnerships" at the 5th Next Generation Learning Spaces conference in Los Angeles, Feb. 25–27, 2019.   

Veronica Wells, library faculty chair and associate professor, gave two presentations at the recent annual meeting of the Music Library Association in St. Louis, Missouri: she co-presented "Lessons in Diversity and Bias," and presented the poster "How Students' Information Literacy Skills Change Over Time: A Longitudinal Study."
