Student artists, graphic designers to showcase works in virtual exhibition

In Limbo, a virtual exhibition of art and design work done by the Studio Art and Graphic Design class of 2021 at 糖心vlog

The Studio Art and Graphic Design class of 2021 at 糖心vlog will present a virtual exhibition of their art and design work, which opens at 6 p.m. on April 22 via Zoom.

The exhibition is titled 鈥淚n Limbo.鈥

This is another in a series of Pacific virtual exhibitions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The exhibition by seniors and juniors will be composed of graphic designs and paintings created using the Art Steps online platform.听

The featured senior graphic design students are听Crystal Baltazar, Isabel Enriquez, Gavin Henderson, Emilie Jenkins, Shay Jones, Jennifer Nava, Brian Navarro-Medina, Mark Rodriguez, Marc Tom, Jasmine Torres and Mackenzie Wieland. The senior studio students include Crystal Baltazar,听Erica Madrigal, Mariana Nunez and Kaelani Valdez-Nawatani.

There also are three juniors: Rosa Castillo, Emily Chen and Lisette Silva.

Graphics artist Jasmine Torres, who graduated from Bear Creek High School in Stockton, said all involved in the show tried to support one another.

鈥淚t was very difficult doing the art and design work online and remotely,鈥 Torres said. 鈥淏ut we all made the best of it. We had to be creative.鈥

Torres designed labels for three flavors of the popular drink Kombucha 鈥 pineapple, mango and papaya. She gave the drink the brand name Olakino 鈥 which means the 鈥渟tate of health and wellbeing鈥 in Hawaiian.

鈥淚 tried to design labels that would capture the meaning and essence of the word Olakino,鈥 Torres said.

A press release for the exhibition sums up the challenges that were faced and met.

鈥淭hey have adjusted to studio art classes held remotely, working from dining tables and bedrooms. They have done without large studios and the professional equipment available in the art building. Some of them have lost family members and friends. Yet they persevered and created an impressive body of work.鈥
